How Would You Respond?

There are many phrases in life that when heard you can have an automatic response. For instance:
It's cancer...You're being laid off...I'm leaving you...
These all bring a negative feeling to me. What about these?
He proposed...You won...It's a girl/boy...
Of course these bring immediate smiles to my face.
But what happens when the words that you hear bring both sets of emotions?
These are some of the words we have been hearing the last few days.
College scholarships...Built like a gymnist... Olympics....
For a mom who isn't pushy, these words put a little fear into me. I want my kids to enjoy what they do. I can't imagine some of the sacrifices that could come with some of these words. As Andy said, my biggest fear....
But is it? No, I can't imagine putting a second mortgage on my home & moving to TX just to train for a certain event. But, I can enjoy watching my daughter exercise & have fun while paying her way through college.
With all that being said, let me tell you what has brought us to this crazy train of thought.
The boys are playing soccer this fall. I wanted Miss Priss to have some outlet to make sure she is getting some exercise. So, I immediately thought of gymnastics. She is constantly tumbling, doing the splits, & running around like crazy. I am envious of that girls legs. They are already built & she is only 4!!!! Anyway.... I looked up gymnastics on the computer & showed it to her. She lit up like a kid in a candy store. So, last week we went over to our local gym. We got the spill & took the tour. All sounded great. Now time for the tour. Miss Priss proceeds to tell us what each & every thing is for & what you do on each thing. Okay... so she's seen it. I'm good with that. The lady giving us the tour had to answer the phone. We stayed in there & watched the girls stretch. Well, Miss Priss thought they were trying to do the splits. She says "no no no" & then shows them how. LOL. She even picks out her little outfit: shiny purple with stars.
Now fast forward to yesterday when we head over to open gym (her classes don't start until September. Open gym for preschoolers is a 2 hour period where they can run & "play" on all the equipment. The gym is divided into 2 sections, a smaller preschool area & then the adult area. The head coach pointed over to the small bar & tried to encourage her to do a flip. HG just looked at her like she was crazy. I thought okay, so she's a normal kid. WRONG. She instead looks over at the adult size bar. She says that one is her size & goes over to it & starts hanging from it. We all were laughing at her. She has no fear.
She knows what to do on most everything.
You should see her on the balance beam. She jumps right up there, doesn't look down, she looks at the end of the bar, & her little toes just work that beam like a pro. I couldn't get over it.
After a little bit we were causing quite the scene. Several of the moms were watching her & coming up to us telling us the same thing: She has been trained in gymnastics! She already knows the fundamentals. She is built just right for this. Watch her run - someone has been working with her.
Oh my this is just a little more than this mama was ready for. I just wanted her to have fun & get some exercise. And before we left they were discussing "meets & medals, etc." YIKES. What in the world?
Now, don't get me wrong. SHE LOVES IT!!!!! She got mad when we left (we were first to arrive & almost last to leave). She fusses because we aren't going to "gymnastics" tomorrow. We keep reminding her that she will go only once a week & then she proceeds to tell us that she had gymnastics every day in China. SHEESH. Of course she couldn't wear shorts & a top like all the other girls. No, she has to have on her leotard. And she questioned why the other Hannah didn't have on hers. SIGH
So, what do you think? Am I over reacting? I mean she's just a kid, will she be able to enjoy this?
I'll try to get some pics soon. All I had was my point & shoot but it couldn't keep up with her.

FYI - Andy says that I AM over-reacting. I guess it's time for me to just "chill" & enjoy her enthusiasm.
