Yes, I am an Olympic fan. I always have been & hope to always be one. I love watching the opening & closing ceremonies. I can't wait until "prime time" to see the big sports (I know I'm telling my age here.) I love how countries, big and small, come together. Athletes have trained all their lives for this moment & the entire world gets to watch in the stands. How cool is that? This year I am excited, but of course, a little more than normal. I have been counting down to August for over a couple of years now. As many people would come & go to Beijing I would look at the pictures and dream of this. And it's finally here!!!!! I would be lying if I said it's okay for others to win (I am proud for them) but I must root for the good ole USA!!!!! This year to help the kids stay focused - I insist that we don't miss a beat Friday night - the Morris household will be including themselves in the festivities. We all have chosen a country to support, and it couldn't be USA or China. We are taking a little time to learn about that particular country, we are making the countries flags to wave at the appropriate times, and we are keeping a chart to see which country wins the most medals. I'll make sure to take pics & tell you all about it. I am sure there will be plenty of stories to tell. That night we are having Chinese take out, which is a very rare treat here. I just don't think I can explain how pumped I am about all of it. The boys & I have been working on their school stuff on and off all summer just to get two weeks ahead so we could focus on the games. We are going to be studying China & do a complete unit on the history of the olympic games. Yes, I know - GEEK!!!!! But I had to find some way to get the boys interested so I wouldn't feel guilty watching the tv for the duration of the games.
So, don't forget to watch. 8-8-08 at 8:08 (in China the #8 is a lucky number in case anyone wondered) Get out your patriotic spirit, puff up that pride, & cheer on the athletes - they deserve it no matter what is going on politically. (You don't even want me to get started on that!)
